چکیده
Introduction The medicinal potential of plant is due to the presence of active principles, capable of producing several pharmacological effects such as analgesic, antiseptic agents, diuretics, expectorants, tranquilizers, digestive healing, emollients, anti-diarrhoeal, among others [1]. The deep cultural roots of the Brazilian population facilitated the permanence of the use of herbal medicine to the present day acknowledging its effectiveness and legitimacy. [2] A strong scientific interest in herbal medicine has grown in recent years, which has led to the development of several studies that were based on popular practices with the use of plants for various therapeutic purposes [3]. One of medicinal plants, Plectranthus barbatus, is traditionally used as anti-inflammatory and antifungal agents, and has been recognized for its effects against the bacterias that cause dental caries such as Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus [4].

Study of the Interference between Plectranthus Species Essential Oils from Brazil and Aminoglycosides
Plectranthus is one of the most representative genera of Lamiaceae family. In this study, the essential oils from Plectranthus amboinicus, Plectranthus ornatus, and Plectranthus barbatus were investigated for their chemical composition and antimicrobial and modulatory activities. The major components found were carvacrol (54.4%-P. amboinicus) and eugenol (22.9%-P. ornatus e 25.1%-P. barbatus). ...
متن کاملAssessing the Chemical Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of Essential Oils from Brazilian Plants-Eremanthus erythropappus (Asteraceae), Plectrantuns barbatus, and P. amboinicus (Lamiaceae).
The chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of essential oils obtained from three Brazilian plant species-leaves and branches of Eremanthus erythropappus (Asteraceae), leaves of Plectranthus barbatus, and leaves of P. amboinicus (Lamiaceae)-were determined. Analysis by GC/MS and determination of Kovats indexes both indicated δ-elemene (leaves-42.61% and branches-23.41%) as well as (-)-α...

Bacterial infections cause thousands of deaths in the world every year. In most cases, infections are more serious because the patient is already weakened, and often, the bacteria are already resistant to the antibiotics used. Counterparting this negative scenario, the interest in medicinal plants as an alternative to the synthetic antimicrobial drugs is blossoming worldwide. In the present wor...

Plectranthus is a genus which includes species of ornamental and medicinal potential. It faces taxonomic problems due to aggregating species previously belonging to the genus Coleus, a fact that has contributed to the existence of various synonymies. The species Plectranthus amboinicus, Plectranthus barbatus, Plectranthus grandis and Plectranthus neochilus are included in this context. Some aut...
